Testing for Erectile Dysfunction

If you suffer from weak erections or can’t get one at all and suspect that your have erectile dysfunction, go to a doctor. He will then begin with testing your blood for diabetes, hypogonadism and prolactinoma and other common conditions that could cause the erectile dysfunction.

The doctor will then also test you for cardiovascular problems, like peripheral vascular disease or coronary artery disease which is a very likely cause of erectile problems. He will see if you lifestyle is correct, your weight, and verify your general state of health. The tests are generally quite simple and are non-invasive.

As mentioned before, the best way to determine if your erectile dysfunction is psychological or physiological is to determine if you never get an erection or if you do (however rare). If you get an erection in normal times and only have problems while having intercourse then your erectile dysfunction problem will most probably be caused by a problem psychological in nature.

There is a general misunderstanding that psychological erectile dysfunction issues are worst than physiological ones. This is wrong. If you suffer with psychological issues that path a full recovery is must more likely. The issue can be handled by a psychologist or a therapist with the percentage of successes being much higher than patience suffering from physiological issues.
